If your baby’s face, limbs, or body is blue, it is a sign that you should seek immediate medical treatment.
If your baby’s skin appears blue colored, it may be a sign that the lungs or heart are not working properly, and the baby should be seen by a doctor immediately. A newborn’s hands or feet may appear blue when cold, and should quickly return to pink when warmed. Also, the face, lips, or tongue may appear blue during a period of hard crying, but should return to pink once the crying has stopped.
A flat spot on the back or side of your newborn’s head is normal and can be ignored.
Babies are born with soft heads, allowing them room for their brains to grow. If a baby lays or sleeps in one position too often, that portion of his or her head may become flat, called “flat head syndrome”. If babies are laying down most of the day, this syndrome is more likely. To avoid flat head syndrome, hold your baby for periods of time during the day, either in your arms or in a baby carrier, change their sleeping position regularly, and practice appropriate amounts of “tummy time”.
What temperature indicates your newborn baby needs to see a doctor?
A)
Anything above normal (about 37C/98.6F)
C)
Anything over 40C/104F
D)
Anything that lasts longer than 2 or 3 days
In a newborn baby, even a slight fever may indicate an infection. Since your baby’s immune system is not developed, they may need medical attention to fight even the slightest illness. A physician should examine a newborn with any degree of fever.
From about 18 weeks of pregnancy, the baby’s sex could be determined through an ultrasound scan.
Ultrasound scans are a fairly accurate way of determining your baby's sex from about 18 weeks of pregnancy.
Which types of hormones affect female fertility?
Ovulatory disorders are the most common cause of infertility in women. For you to successfully produce an egg each month requires a complex interaction between hormones produced by your brain and your ovaries.
